PLN Ready To Help Succeed XX PON In Papua, Electricity Works Already 95 Percent

JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN is ready to make the XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua to be held next October. The progress of the electrical work to support the show at the four locations has reached 95 percent and is targeted for completion in August 2021.

General Manager of PLN Main Unit for Papua and West Papua Region, Abdul Farid said the XX PON activities will be centered in Mimika Regency, Merauke Regency, Jayapura Regency and Jayapura City. Later, there will be 41 match venues and 223 locations that need to be supplied with electricity safely and reliably for the smooth running of these activities.

"Until now, the overall electrical work for PON XX is almost complete. We have completed the construction of a new network and strengthening the electrical system in most locations," he said in a written statement, Friday, June 18.

In addition to focusing on completing physical work, said Farid, PLN also ensures that the power supply from the generators in each location is sufficient. With the total power required to electrify all PON match venues, it is estimated to reach 16.21 MW.

Furthermore, Farid said the existing generators were still able to supply it. Currently, the total peak load in the three regencies and one host city is around 126 MW with a generating capacity of 204 MW. This amount still leaves a power reserve of 78 MW.

"For the power capable of electricity in the four locations, the average surplus is around 38 percent of the current peak load. With the need for additional power for PON XX, we estimate the power surplus will still be around 30 percent," he said.

In addition, PLN has also prepared supporting equipment to ensure that the electricity supply remains safe in the event of a disturbance in the main system. The equipment prepared includes Mobile Substation Unit (UGB), Mobile Cable Unit (UKB), Mobile Cable and Cubicle Unit (UKKB), Mobile UPS and Mobile Genset.

"We will prepare the supporting equipment at venue locations and strategic points during the XX PON so that the electricity supply is maintained," he said.

Meanwhile, said Farid, in terms of personnel readiness, PLN will prepare 564 officers to secure the electricity supply for the 4-year event. The personnel will be on duty from September 19 to October 17, 2021.

"We are trying to do physical work and other readiness in terms of electricity to be completed as soon as possible. We also continue to coordinate with related parties to ensure that what we prepare is in accordance with the electricity needs of PON XX later," he explained.
