8 Streets In Semarang Closed From June 18-July 2, Mayor Hendi: This Is A Reminder To Residents, The Area Is Not Normal

SEMARANG - The Semarang City Government closed eight roads spread across various sub-districts in the capital city of Central Java province following the high number of COVID-19 cases.

"The road closures are based on regional statistics with a high number of COVID cases," said Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi in Semarang as reported by Antara, Friday, June 18.

The eight roads include Jalan Imam Barjo, Jalan Gemah Raya, Jalan Letjen Soeprapto (Old Town area), Jalan Ngesrep Timur, Jalan Klampisan Raya, Jalan Supriyadi, Jalan Suratmo, and Jalan Lamper Tengah Raya.

The eight roads are spread across Tembalang, Banyumanik, South Semarang, West Semarang, Ngaliyan, and Pedurungan sub-districts.

The mayor, who is familiarly called Hendi, added that the road which was closed from 18 June to 2 July 2021 was a reminder that the area had a high number of COVID cases.

"As a reminder for the community that the area is not normal. Reduce mobility, you can do activities but the health protocol is still maintained," he said.

He added that the closure was not carried out on more roads as at the beginning of the pandemic last year.

However, he continued, it was possible to take policies such as at the beginning of the pandemic by closing many main roads in the city of Semarang if COVID cases did not go down.
