Russia Records Daily Infection Record For COVID-19, Moscow Closes Euro 2020 Fan Zone
JAKARTA - Russia experienced a spike in cases of COVID-19 infection, recording the highest since February 1, in the last 24-hour report on Friday, June 18 local time.
The Anti-coronavirus Crisis Center announced, Russia recorded 17,262 cases of COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours, Total Russia has 5,281,309 cases of COVID-19.
Moscow became the largest contributor to positive cases in the last 24 hours, reaching 1,254 cases. Followed in a row St. Petersburg (970 cases), Buryatia (223), Nizhny Novgorod (218) and Voronezh (186), as quoted by TASS Friday 18 June.
As for deaths, Russia reported 453 deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the Red Bear Country to 128,445 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Separately, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin extended the COVID-19 containment measures that were active last week, as well as announced a number of new things on his blog.
Moscow has extended a ban on night shifts in restaurants, cafes and clubs. All facilities must be closed from 23:00 to 06:00. This action does not apply to delivery, takeaway, sales and personal service.
The new measures include a ban on gatherings of more than 1,000 people, which applies to concerts, entertainment and sporting events. Areas without designated seating will be closed, including the dance floor and Euro 2020 fan zone.
Food courts, playrooms and children's playgrounds, zoos, sports fields will remain closed.
"I don't want this, but we have to. We have temporarily suspended all mass entertainment events and we also have to close the dance halls and fan zones," he wrote, referring to the Euro 2020 fan zone outside Moscow's Luzhniki stadium.
For information, Moscow plans to establish a COVID-19-free restaurant, which can only be visited by people who have received the COVID-19 vaccination and can be confirmed via a special QR code.
