In The Hands Of These Banyuwangi Residents, Baby Diaper Waste Can Be Liquid Fertilizer To Flower Pots
BANYUWANGI - Choirul Anwar (35), a resident of Tamanbaru Village, Banyuwangi District, East Java, uses baby diaper waste for liquid fertilizer and handicrafts.
This has been done since 2019. Until now, 200 to 300 pieces of diaper waste are used and recycled a day.
Anwar said that he was moved to use used diapers after watching television shows in early 2019.
At that time, a community took action to clean the river. The community apparently found a lot of diaper waste in the river.
"I asked why no one was recycling, so I finally did an experiment at home. I tried what I could use from this diaper waste," he said, Friday, June 18.
Anwar explained that the recycling of baby diaper waste was first soaked overnight. Soaking using water mixed with fermented liquid. This liquid is made by itself with the basic ingredients of banana weevil.
However, if you want to be practical, you can use EM4 liquid fertilizer which can be purchased at agricultural stores. Use this liquid to dissolve the dirt in the diaper. If it has been soaked then separated between the cloth diaper and diaper gel.
These two materials are then dried in the sun to dry. Next for the fabric is mixed with a mixture of cement and white cement. Later this waste can be made into flower pots.
Meanwhile, the gel is used as a mixture of paving and light brick by first being chopped using a machine.
Meanwhile, the liquid used to dissolve the dirt was used to make liquid fertilizer. The process of making this liquid fertilizer takes about 10 days.
"This liquid organic fertilizer is in demand and sought for plant fertilizer," he said.
At the beginning of starting this recycling, Anwar admitted to looking for used diapers by visiting rivers and landfills (TPS) in his neighborhood.
But over time, many residents came to the place to dispose of used diapers so that they could be used.
He even received these used diapers from out of town. Anwar hopes that what he is doing is widely imitated in other areas so that diaper waste can be used and not become garbage. This is because it takes a long time to decompose this type of waste.
