Due To Pumping Crypto, This Is The Fate Of McAfee Antivirus Boss Behind Bars
JAKARTA – John McAfee is still languishing in a Spanish prison after being jailed in October 2020. The McAfee Antivirus boss was accused by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of fraud for pumping the price of cryptocurrency in an initial coin offering (ICO).
According to Bitcoin News, the US Department of Justice has charged McAfee with tax evasion, fraud and money laundering. In early June Spain's National Court adjourned his extradition hearing.
“US believes I have hidden crypto. I wish I did but it has been disbanded through many hands of Tim McAfee (your trust is not required), and my remaining assets have all been confiscated. My friends disappeared for fear of socializing. I have nothing. But I don't regret anything," McAfee wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.
Some time ago, McAfee also shared his personal life in a Catalonia prison via Twitter uploads.
“Imagine a preschool where kids do drugs, carry makeshift weapons, and the teachers ask you to ask questions.”
The McAfee antivirus boss also revealed that his social circle is limited because he doesn't speak Catalan. McAfee called himself isolated and it was the toughest time of his life.
“I don't speak Catalan and very little Spanish so human contact is limited. No consolation—no escape from loneliness, from emptiness, from myself. This is the toughest period of my life,” McAfee wrote.
McAfee returned to Twitter in May and called the rest of his life a lesson from the current justice system.
“I am almost 76 years old and have been in prison, without bail, for seven months. Not so much for younger men in their 40s or even 50s. But for me, it's probably a significant percentage of the rest of my days on this earth. A lesson in our justice system."
He didn't stop talking about his life in a Spanish prison with a bad diet.
“The worst thing about Spanish prisons is the food. If I could never again eat stale bread and cold hot dogs my life would be complete... Most prison food in Spain is indistinguishable from rat droppings in motor oil. The only exception is potato pie, which is only served on Saturdays.”
McAfee stated that he currently has nothing left. However, in that prison he actually felt more free than before.
“I once had everything. After countless lawsuits and the Fed's reach, I now have nothing. But inside the bars of this prison, I have never felt more free. The things you believe you have, in fact own you."
On the other hand, John McAfee's wife, Janice, expressed her opinion on May 26 about Elon Musk who has moved the market through Twitter tweets. According to him, Musk's tweets had a greater influence in raising the price of cryptocurrencies than McAfee's.
“While John faces a real possibility of dying in prison for allegedly engaging in similar activities,” Jenice said, as quoted by Bitcoin News.
