Causes Children Often Experience Constipation, What Are?
JAKARTA - Mother, did you know that it turns out that children are very susceptible to constipation or difficult bowel movements (BAB)? Usually, children will experience constipation or constipation at the age of one to four years.
Quoted from the page of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI), Friday, June 18, the type of constipation that is often experienced by children is functional constipation. Usually, functional constipation is characterized by hard, dry stools. In children, constipation can also be caused by holding back bowel movements so that the stool will be harder because water is absorbed by the intestinal wall. When a child tries to have a bowel movement, it will hurt more and more.
Signs of constipation in your little one vary depending on their age and diet. Constipation in children has many causes and sometimes there is no clear reason. Some of the possible causes include not eating high-fiber foods such as fruit and vegetables, not drinking enough fluids, feeling worried or anxious about something, such as moving house, the arrival of a new baby, or starting child care or school.
If your child is constipated, they may feel pain during bowel movements, which may mean they won't try to have a bowel movement. This can create a vicious cycle because the more they hold on, the more constipated they become.
It is advisable to consult a pediatrician if your child does not defecate after a day or two and there are other signs, such as blood in the stool or the child appears to have abdominal pain.
