Eddie Vedder's Story Watching Jane's Addiction Concert With Dennis Rodman

JAKARTA - Dennis Rodman is not only close to North Korea's number one Kim Jong Un, he is also a good friend of one of the most influential people in the grunge world, Eddie Vedder. According to vocalist Pearl Jam, their friendship was "long and deep".

Recently Eddie Vedder reminisced about the time when he and Dennis Rodman flew from Seattle to Las Vegas to watch a Jane's Addiction concert. Uniquely, they flew only three and a half hours before the band appeared on stage.

In an interview with Bill Simmons, Vedder shared an anecdote, which happened when the Chicago Bulls were in his hometown fighting the Seattle Supersonics. While he and Rodman were hanging out at the team hotel, Rodman's security guard gave him three plane tickets, in which Rodman said Jane's Addiction was playing in Vegas that night.

"And I love (Jane's Addiction), my God, it's like making love at six in the morning," said Vedder.

"He (Rodman) said, 'We'll be there at nine, they perform at 9.30."

Vedder, Rodman and the Rodman security guard went to the airport, where Vedder said: "People followed Rodman wherever we ran, like a flowing river".

They got to the stage on time and sat beside the stage when the band, manned by vocalist Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Chris Chaney, performed.

According to Vedder, Rodman turned to him and said: "This is great, right?" And they flew back to Seattle that very night.

Beyond the story of Vedder and Rodman's friendship, Pearl Jam released their new music video for the single song Retrograde on May 15 yesterday. This music video starring Greta Thunberg, a Swedish climate activist who is shown as an astrologer, reveals the consequences of inaction on climate change.

The song is taken from Pearl Jam Gigaton's latest album, which was released in March.
