Six Months Police Arrest 24,878 Drug Suspects, National Police Chief: Evidence Value Of IDR 11.66 Trillion

JAKARTA - The National Police Chief General of Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo said his institution had uncovered 19,229 drug abuse cases during 2021 by securing as many as 24,878 suspects.

"During 2021 the National Police have uncovered 19,229 drug cases by securing 24,878 suspects," said National Police Chief Listyo Sigit at the DPR RI Commission III Working Meeting at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, June 16, 2021.

With the disclosure of the case, he said, evidence was obtained of 7,696 kilograms of methamphetamine, 2,100 kilograms of marijuana, 7.3 kilograms of heroin, 34.3 kilograms of gorilla tobacco, and 239,277 pills of ecstasy.

According to him, the evidence secured in the disclosure of the case if converted is worth Rp11.66 trillion.

"The value of the evidence that was secured was Rp. 11.66 trillion and saved 39.24 million people from drug abuse," he said.

The National Police Chief explained the various modus operandi of drugs in Indonesia, such as disguised or wrapped in various goods imported into Indonesia or through the ship to ship method or smuggling between ships through the mouse port.

He explained that the entry of drugs into Indonesia cannot be separated from the influence of international drug syndicates, namely the "Golden Triangle" Syndicate, "Golden Crescent" Syndicate, and the Indonesia-Dutch Syndicate.

"We will continue to carry out law enforcement against drug trafficking as an effort to eradicate from upstream, but in the future the Police will work on the activities of the Drug Tangguh Village," he said.

Sigit said with the establishment of the Drug Tangguh Village so that the community has the power to prevent, deter, and fight against drug abuse at the village level.

He hopes that after the community has the power of deterrence and deterrence, the public will be more courageous in reporting information related to drug trafficking.
