Thugs Who Wandered In Palembang's New Boom Harbor Arrested, Not Detained But Fostered
PALEMBANG - The Jatanras Team of the South Sumatra Police arrested 13 thugs in the area of Boom Baru Port and Jakabaring Central Market Palembang in an operation to eradicate extortion and thuggery.
"In the operation, three thugs were arrested in the Boom Baru Port area for illegally levying truck drivers and 10 thugs at the Jakabaring Main Market who collected parking fees without permission and outside the provisions," said Head of Sub-Directorate 3 Jatanras Polda Sumsel Kompol.CS Panjaitan in Palembang, quoted, Tuesday, June 15.
Regarding the evidence that was secured from the suspects in the form of Rp. 200,000 in cash, gadgets, and records of the police numbers of trucks parked in line to unload at the port.
According to him, the acts of thuggery and extortion in the port area and the wholesale market are under investigation to explore the possibility of parties coordinating them.
Meanwhile, thugs and extortionists who were arrested were not detained because they could still be trained.
"After collecting their identity data, taking fingerprints and photos, the thugs and extortionists are allowed to go home with a note that if they are caught again, the officers will immediately be processed according to legal provisions," he said.
Meanwhile, a victim of extortion by thugs from Boom Baru Port, Heri, a CPO tanker car driver from Martapura, East OKU Regency, explained that every time he unloads CPO at the port, he is asked for up to IDR 50,000.
"We, the drivers, were asked to pay for parking when we stood in line for IDR 15,000, then we were asked to park again for IDR 25,000, then when we were going out we asked for IDR 10,000," said the victim.
