Prabowo Subianto Always Wins In Surveys, But Millennial Voters Win Ganjar Pranowo And Ridwan Kamil
JAKARTA - General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto often dominates the position as the favored presidential candidate, but the findings of the Center for Political Communication Studies (CPCS) show that millennial and gen Z voters are dominated by Ganjar Pranowo and Ridwan Kamil. While Prabowo is in third position.
"The presidential candidate most favored by millennial and gen Z voters is not the Prabowo figure who is usually the most favored in general, but leans more towards Ganjar and Ridwan Kamil," said CPCS Executive Director Tri Okta SK in a press release, in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Tuesday, Tuesday. June 15.
Ganjar's electability stands at 17.7 percent, followed by RK at 16.0 percent. Following are Prabowo (12.8 percent), Anies Baswedan (7.6 percent), and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (7.3 percent).
Ganjar and RK enjoy the greatest electability support among millennial and gen Z voters compared to other figures, including Prabowo.
According to Okta, Prabowo's high electability has been contributed by the older generation of voters.
Meanwhile, he continued, demographic changes have occurred since Prabowo first competed in the 2009 election, when he was paired with Megawati. Next, Prabowo tried twice as a presidential candidate in 2014 and 2019, but lost.
"The increasing number of young voters in the upcoming 2024 election should be considered by political parties in carrying figures as presidential and vice presidential candidates," he said.
Recently, the discourse of re-pairing Megawati-Prabowo, which incidentally is a classic pair from the 2009 presidential election, has emerged.
A more interesting combination is Prabowo-Puan. Prabowo represents the old group and Puan represents the young. Puan is said to be a central figure in PDIP's internal regeneration.
"As a female politician, Puan can continue Megawati's leadership style," said Okta.
On the other hand, young figures such as Ganjar, RK, and AHY can be a challenge for the Prabowo-Puan pair.
"Ganjar's popularity on social media has even angered the PDIP elite, seeing it as a threat to the plan to carry Prabowo-Puan, which is supported by the PDIP-Gerindra coalition," Okta said.
Likewise with names such as Erick Thohir (6.0 percent), Sandiaga Uno (5.8 percent), Tri Rismaharini (4.3 percent), and Giring Ganesha (2.3 percent). Then there are Khofifah Indar Parawansa (2.3 percent) and Mahfud MD (1.0 percent). Others are just under 1 percent, and the rest don't know/don't answer 14.6 percent.
The CPCS survey was conducted on June 1-10, 2021, with 1200 respondents representing all provinces in Indonesia and aged 16-39 years.
The survey was conducted by telephone with randomly selected respondents from the previous survey since 2019. The survey margin of error is ±2.9 percent and at a 95 percent confidence level.
