Update On COVID-19 As Of May 14: Distribution Of TCM Examination Equipment Cause Addition Of Positive Cases

JAKARTA - Government spokesman for the handling of COVID-19 Achmad Yurianto (Yuri) explained, there were an additional 568 positive confirmed cases of the corona virus or COVID-19 as of Thursday, May 14 at 12.00 WIB. Thus, the total number of positive cases became 16,006 people.

Even so, there was good news received. The number of recovered cases has outperformed the death cases. There were an additional 231 patients recovered, bringing the total to 3,518 patients. Meanwhile, 15 more patients died, bringing it to 1,043 patients.

Then, additional numbers also occurred in patient data under surveillance (PDP) with a total of 33,672 people. Meanwhile, cases of people under monitoring (ODP) increased to 258,639.

"If we look at the details of the ODP accumulative figures from the provincial reports, actually most of them are not in ODP status and have been monitored," said Yuri at a press conference at Graha BNPB, East Jakarta, Thursday, May 14.

"Part of the PDP has also been completed. Some that have been confirmed positive are included in positive cases and negative confirmations will not enter into PDP cases again," he continued.

Furthermore, the government has carried out a sample of saliva (swab) or Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and a rapid molecular test (TCM) totaling 173,690 examinations. The number of cases examined was 127,813 people.

Yuri admitted, the addition of cases in the past two days had increased from the previous one. On May 11, the positive cases increased by 233. On May 12, the positive cases increased by 338.

Then, on May 13 it jumped to 689 additional cases in one day. Today, the addition of cases is still high, namely 568. He said, the rapid increase occurred in remote areas.

"If we pay attention, the map of the distribution of the increase in numbers today or yesterday, we will see that areas that do have a long distance (from the location) of the inspection are increasing rapidly," said Yuri.

This, Yuri continued, was due to the addition of the procurement of thousands of COVID-19 types of molecular rapid tests (TCM) which were distributed two days ago. This tool has been distributed to 64 hospitals in 30 provinces. The equipment is placed in Yapen, Nabire, Timika, Nias, and so on.

"For example, yesterday's data for Southeast Sulawesi province received an increase of 91 people because the specimens, which were originally planned to be sent to Makassar, could be checked on the spot right away," he explained.
