The Earth's Core Expands Mysteriously, Makes Scientists Curious

JAKARTA – An international research team revealed that the Earth's core has been expanding in a tilted pattern. Scientists argue that such developments occur every year.

Launching Sputnik News, the innermost core is a dynamic driver that generates the planet's magnetic field. It protects the Earth from harmful radiation and has an important role in sustaining life on it.

Commenting on the development of the Earth's core, scientists said they did not know why this could happen. To find the cause, they must understand the processes that occur in the Earth's mantle.

“Each layer on Earth is controlled by what is above it, and affects what is below it. The inner core slowly solidifies from the melting outer core, like a snowball adding more layers," said University of California seismologist Daniel Frost.

“The outer core is then cooled by the overlying mantle. So to ask the question why the deepest core could expand faster on one side than the other, perhaps (as well as) ask why one side of the mantle is colder than the other?” added Frost.

Scientists speculate that the cause of the uneven development is the formation of a subduction zone that occurs when two tectonic plates collide, one of which is pushed down by another.

Not only that, scientists reveal that the innermost core of the planet Earth has been losing heat unevenly. They add that this could reveal the cause of the weakening of Earth's magnetic field, which protects the planet from cosmic radiation and particles emitted from the Sun.
