On the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, the Chairman of the MPR RI invites the Indonesian people to treat unity and diversity.
JAKARTA - The Chairman of the MPR RI Ahmad Muzani emphasized that unity is the most important strength for the Indonesian nation in facing various challenges and maintaining the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
"Political differences will not divide the national brotherhood," said Muzani when delivering an introductory speech at the 2026 MPR RI Annual Meeting and Joint Meeting of the DPR-DPD RI at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Friday.
Muzani said the momentum of the Indonesian Independence Day was not just a constitutional ceremony, but a space to reaffirm national commitment. Indonesia, he emphasized, was born from the willingness of the founders of the nation to set aside group interests for the sake of a common great ideal.
"Unity is what causes progress to happen. If unity weakens, the energy of this nation will be exhausted to suspect and negate each other. However, if our unity is strong, we can turn differences into a source of energy and progress," said Muzani.
Caring for Unity Through Pancasila and Digital Ethics
In his speech, Muzani emphasized the importance of maintaining unity through justice, dialogue, and responsible freedom of opinion. He underlined that Pancasila is the greatest meeting point of the nation, which has been tested by various historical crises.
He also highlighted the dynamics of the digital space in the modern era. Although digital technology expands the space of democracy, digital media is also vulnerable to the spread of slander, manipulation, and false news (hoaks).
"Democracy will not become stronger because we are getting harder to condemn. Democracy will be strong if freedom of speech is accompanied by responsibility," he said, calling for a polite and civilized political culture.

Closing his speech ahead of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, Muzani invited all elements of society to continue to live the values of courage and truth in order to realize a just and prosperous Indonesia.
"Don't let the Red and White Flag only flutter at the end of the pole. Turn on the spirit of courage to defend the truth. Happy 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia! United, sovereign, just, and prosperous," he concluded, which was concluded with three verses of national optimism.
