Bring the Feel of Childhood, Lukas Graham Releases Good Times as His Fifth Album
JAKARTA - Singer and songwriter Lukas Graham released his fifth album titled Good Times via Virgin Music Group. Rooted in the Celtic and folk music traditions that shaped his childhood in Copenhagen, the album features 13 songs that take him back to the starting point.
Lukas' latest work reconnects him with the tradition of storytelling, acoustic instrumentation, and Irish musical heritage that lies at the heart of his first relationship with music.
Good Times was released a day before Lukas joined Ed Sheeran as a special guest at several shows in North America in the Loop Tour 2026 series, starting tomorrow, August 15, at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN.
Along with the release of this album, Lukas also shared "Before You Go," one of the most intimate songs in this project, which was written in 2019 for his old friend, Thomas, who has suffered from a chronic illness and is slowly approaching the end of his life throughout their friendship which lasted almost two decades.
When Thomas was preparing for a follow-up brain surgery that could potentially remove his sense of touch, he asked to join Lukas on a tour of Korea and Japan, where Lukas helped him experience visiting places, tasting food, and enjoying moments he had always dreamed of while he could still.
After turning the experience into a song, Lukas kept it, promising Thomas that the song would only be shared with the public at a time he would decide for himself. Years later, Thomas asked Lukas to sing it at his funeral, where "Before You Go" was performed in public for the first time in the same church where Lukas buried his father.
Since then, the song has become a quiet but meaningful moment in Lukas' live performances.
"This is a song that is meant to be sung together, even though no one has known it yet," said Lukas.
Stories of memories, grief, friendship, and bonds are depicted across the tracks on the Good Times album, with reflections, legacies, and hard-won perspectives. Throughout the project, Lukas returns to the roots music traditions that surrounded him as a child in Christiania, an abandoned and illegally occupied military base, now a free and vibrant Copenhagen community, where he grew up.
His late father, Eugene, a Donegal-born music lover, often invited folk musicians from across Scandinavia and helped introduce Lukas to the music and the spirit of togetherness that formed the foundation of this album.
The album was recorded with a rotating group of musicians in Nashville and New York, many of whom have personal connections to Eugene and the folk music community where Lukas grew up. The musicians include Michael McGoldrick, one of the world's best uilleann pipe and Irish flute players; bassist Sam Grisman; Tim O'Brien on mandolin and backing vocals; Stuart Duncan on violin; and Brian Sutton on guitar.
"People who my father knew. People who have slept on the sofa in the living room of my mother and father's house," explained Lukas. "For me, it's very important to be able to involve some of these musicians and build that cultural connection." Lukas previously explained. "For me, it's very important that we can make contact with these musicians and build that cultural bond."
