Bareskrim Disrupts the Smuggling of 28 Tons of Tin to Malaysia

JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Directorate of the National Police has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 28 tons of tin with the intention of Malaysia in Gantung Village, Gantung District, Gantung Regency, East Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands.

Director of Criminal Investigation of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni, said the smuggling was thwarted when investigators raided the storage warehouse on Thursday (13/8) morning.

"The team carried out law enforcement against illegal tin sand storage activities that were suspected of being smuggled into Malaysia," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 14.

From the raid, officers seized 28 tons of tin sand suspected of coming from illegal mining activities.

The approximately 28 tons of lead, consisting of 568 sacks, with 97 sacks of which are suspected to have been paid for and ready to be smuggled.

From the disclosure, investigators secured two suspects, namely RR and DW. The suspect RR is suspected of acting as an intermediary to find tin sand in East Belitung, while DW acts as a tin delivery driver.

The police are currently investigating other parties involved in the illegal tin mining and smuggling chain in East Belitung.

"Meanwhile, the evidence was secured at the Belitung Timur Police Headquarters," he said.

Previously, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police assisted in handling the case of alleged illegal mining and smuggling of 50 tons of tin sand in the Air Merbau area, Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Province.

The illegal tin mining results are suspected to be smuggled to Malaysia.
