Prabowo Claims Indonesian Judges' Salaries Above the ASEAN Average

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto claims that judges in Indonesia, especially junior judges, are now above the average of ASEAN countries. This is said to be part of the government's efforts to strengthen the judicial institution.

Prabowo made the statement in his speech at the Annual Meeting of the MPR and the Joint Meeting of the DPR-DPD RI at the Parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, August 14. Initially, he alluded to the government's policy of increasing judges' remuneration.

"The government has succeeded in raising the remuneration of judges. For the most junior judges, their income has increased by 280 percent," said Prabowo.

"The highest in decades. Now the income of our judges, especially the junior ones, is above the ASEAN average," he continued.

According to Prabowo, the increase is a form of the government's attention to the welfare of judges. In fact, he said that the income of the Chief Justice of the Republic of Indonesia (MA) is now higher than that of the Chief Justice of the Singapore MA.

"Even the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has reported to me that the income of the Chief Justice of the Republic of Indonesia Supreme Court is now higher than the income of the Chief Justice of the Singapore Supreme Court. He who reported to me," he said.

Prabowo then emphasized that the government would continue to strengthen the judiciary. According to him, this strengthening is necessary because judges have an important position in ensuring that the public receives justice.

"We must strengthen our judiciary. We must strengthen the judicial institutions. Because our court judges are the last bastion of justice," said the former Indonesian Minister of Defense.

He emphasized that the rule of law and justice must be felt by all people without distinguishing social conditions or economic power.

"That the rule of law and justice are not only for the strong, but our most helpless people must be able to get justice in our courts, in our courts," concluded Prabowo.
