National Police Chief Says Indonesia Is In The Category Of Countries With The Largest Number Of Drug Consumers
JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said that the Indonesian people are still one of the largest drug consumers in the world. This is known because there are still rampant efforts to smuggle narcotics.
"Indonesia is currently a country with a very large number of consumers, as evidenced by the circulation of drugs in a short period of time, although we can reveal it," said General Sigit to reporters, Monday, June 14.
Referring to the results of the disclosure, in just three months the attempt to smuggle around 5 tons of crystal methamphetamine was foiled. That way, Indonesia is still a target market for drug dealers and mafia.
"Some time ago we have revealed approximately 2.5 tons. This also involves the Middle East network and also involves perpetrators from prisons," said General Sigit.
"So if we look at it within a month, we have managed to secure almost 3.6 tons of drugs and if we count it for almost three months, starting from January there may be more or less 5 tons," continued the National Police Chief.
Therefore, the Police, said Sigit, will continue to eradicate narcotics trafficking in Indonesia. Actions will not only be taken at the lower level, but also at the top level, such as suppliers or international networks.
"Of course we will continue to carry out what has been ordered by the President to continue to pursue, disclose and resolve to the roots related to the problem of drug trafficking," said Sigit.
Previously reported, Polda Metro Jaya and Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat thwarted efforts to distribute 1.1 tons of methamphetamine by international networks. In this case, the perpetrators cooperated with the inmates at the Cilegon Correctional Institution.
"Revealing drug transactions in the Middle East network, which this time they cooperate with both Indonesian and foreign citizens who are prisoners in prisons in Cilegon," said Sigit.
In addition, said Sigit, in this case his party has named seven suspects. Two of them are foreign nationals and the rest are Indonesian citizens.
"Five Indonesian citizens with the initials MR, AH, HS, NB and EK as well as two citizens from Nigeria CSN and OJN. From the results of research, these items come from the Middle East and Africa," said Sigit.
