Ahmad Muzani Says Pancasila Must Be Seen in Eradicating Corruption

JAKARTA - MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani emphasized that Pancasila was not enough to be placed as the basis of the state in the realm of ideas. Its value must be seen in law enforcement, protection of the people, management of national wealth, to eradication of corruption.

Muzani conveyed this at the Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, August 14.

According to Muzani, Pancasila is the largest meeting point that the Indonesian nation has ever achieved. The basis of the country was born from historical experience, culture, religion, and long debates between groups.

In its journey, said Muzani, Indonesia has repeatedly faced tests ranging from political turmoil, ideological conflicts, economic crises, communal violence, separatism, terrorism to corruption.

"Pancasila must be seen in the way the state protects its people, in the way the law is enforced, including for efforts to eradicate corruption, which is now a priority," said Muzani.

He also touched on how national wealth is managed and how people remain united in the midst of differences.

According to Muzani, historical experience shows that Pancasila is a path that brings together various interests when Indonesia faces pressure and conflict.

He assessed that unity cannot be separated from justice.

"Maintaining unity means maintaining justice," he said.

Muzani emphasized that criticism should not be used to undermine unity. However, unity should not be used as an excuse to dampen differences of opinion.
