Junior Judge's Salary Rises 280 Percent, Prabowo Demands High Integrity

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto said the government had increased the income of junior judges by 280 percent. The increase in welfare, according to him, must be accompanied by high integrity because judges are where the public seeks justice.

Prabowo conveyed this in a speech at the Annual MPR Session and Joint Session of the DPR and DPD at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, August 14.

"For junior judges, their income increased by 280 percent, putting them above the average income of judges in Asia," said Prabowo.

He called judges the last bastion of justice. Therefore, the government increased the remuneration or income received by judges as part of efforts to maintain judicial independence.

However, Prabowo emphasized that improving welfare cannot be separated from demands for the behavior of judges.

"Independence of judges must be accompanied by high integrity because they are where small people seek justice," he said.

In the same speech, Prabowo also touched on the enforcement of the code of ethics in the judicial environment.

He said the Judicial Commission had proposed sanctions against 121 judges who violated the code of ethics.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court, according to Prabowo, completed 99.54 percent of cases throughout 2025 or as many as 37,973 cases.

Prabowo places strengthening the welfare and integrity of judges as part of the government's efforts and state institutions to strengthen law enforcement.
