11 Indonesian Stocks Affected by MSCI Rebalancing, This is What the Head of the Indonesia Stock Exchange Says
JAKARTA - President Director of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) Jeffrey Hendrik spoke up regarding the announcement of rebalancing or adjustment of stock constituents in the MSCI global index.
As for the latest decision, as many as 11 Indonesian stocks have changed their status in the MSCI index.
Jeffrey explained that rebalancing is a routine process that MSCI conducts periodically, and in determining changes to index constituents, MSCI also considers the openness of public information submitted by the IDX.
The information includes, among others, data on share ownership above 1 percent as well as a list of issuers with a high shareholding concentration (HSC).
"This rebalancing is periodically carried out by MSCI. And like the previous rebalancing process, MSCI also uses the openness of public information submitted by the IDX, such as HSC and 1 percent share ownership," he said in a statement, Thursday, August 13.
Jeffrey emphasized that the IDX would continue to maintain communication with MSCI regarding the process and communication with global investors would also continue as part of efforts to maintain openness and relationships with market participants.
For information, in its latest announcement, MSCI removed 10 Indonesian stocks from a number of indices and lowered one stock to an index with a lower classification.
All changes will take effect after the close of trading on August 31, 2026.
On the MSCI Global Standard Indexes, MSCI issued PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO). Meanwhile, PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk (CPIN) was downgraded from the MSCI Global Standard Indexes to the MSCI Global Small Cap Indexes.
Furthermore, there are nine Indonesian stocks that were removed from the MSCI Global Small Cap Indexes, namely PT Bank Jago Tbk (ARTO), PT Bukalapak.com Tbk (BUKA), PT ESSA Industries Indonesia Tbk (ESSA), PT MD Entertainment Tbk (FILM), and PT Medikaloka Hermina Tbk (HEAL).
In addition, MSCI also removed PT MNC Tourism Indonesia Tbk (KPIG), PT Raharja Energi Cepu Tbk (RATU), PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SMGR), and PT Transcoal Pacific Tbk (TCPI) from the classification.
"All changes will be implemented starting with the closure of the market on August 31, 2026," wrote the MSCI announcement.
