Internet is Present in 3T Area, Students Effectively Learn and Residents Start Selling via Social Media

JAKARTA - For some people, the internet has become part of everyday life. However, for people in remote areas, getting a signal is still a challenge.

In a number of areas, people have to walk far. They use vehicles, even looking for a certain place so that they can get a network. There are also those who climb trees.

This condition shows that internet access for people in the 3T area is not just about communication. Connectivity is also related to education, public services, health, and economic activities.

One of the experiences came from East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The condition of the region, which consists of islands and mountains, makes communication access not always easy.

Head of the East Flores Information and Communication Technology Office, Silvester Suban Toa Kabelen, said that before connectivity was more widely available, the public and government apparatus had to travel a certain distance to get a signal.

This was conveyed in the BAKTI Media Connect 2026 event: "Equalizing Access to Information to All Corners of the Country".

"Our community or friends at school, even health facilities, Puskesmas, Pustu, have to reach kilometers of distance to get a place with a signal so that they can access information, provide reports, and deliver data," explained Silvester in Kuningan, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Silvester said that finding signals is sometimes done in unusual ways.

"Sometimes I climb trees because there is no signal below, so I have to climb trees," he added.

Now, the situation is slowly changing. The presence of communication infrastructure helps open internet access in various places, including village government offices, schools, and health facilities.

Changes are also felt in the field of education. Schools are now increasingly using the internet for learning activities, administration, data delivery, and assessments.

Head of SMAN 1 Titehena Konradus Kudarto said the internet has become an important need for schools. However, the availability of the network must also be followed by adequate capacity.

"I came with great expectations that there would be an increase in capacity already on the ground but there is something that must be corrected so that it can be maximized," he explained.

This is especially felt when schools carry out assessments that are followed by many students simultaneously. This means that the network not only needs to be available, but also must be strong enough to be used together. The benefits of the internet are also beginning to be felt by the community in Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi.

In mountainous areas, internet access helps people get information about the price of agricultural products. This information can be considered before farmers sell their crops.

Acting Head of the Parigi Moutong Regency Information and Communication Technology Office Khairuddin said that previously the community had difficulty getting this information.

"But with this assistance from BAKTI, the public can access all the information that exists, especially in the province, district to the sub-district," he explained.

With more easily obtained information, the public has more materials to consider when selling agricultural products. They can also find information about buyers and market opportunities.

The Internet is also beginning to be used by small business actors. Social media can be used to introduce products, receive orders, and reach buyers from outside the area.

The head of the West Baina Village, Yuslan, said that people began to use social media to introduce the products they produced.

"It's easy for them to get, for example, food that is made and then sold, then they post it in a photo post and then sent on social media."

The increasing use of the internet makes people not only become information recipients. They can also use the digital space to introduce products and find economic opportunities.

The stories from East Flores and Parigi Moutong show that connectivity brings changes in people's lives.

For students, the internet helps support school activities. For public service facilities, the connection facilitates communication and data delivery. Meanwhile, for farmers and business actors, the internet opens access to wider information and markets.

The challenge now does not stop at the availability of the network. The quality and capacity of the connection also need to continue to follow the needs of the community which is increasingly using technology.
