Introduction to Happiness Presents the Story Behind the Journey A Package

JAKARTA - Have we ever received a package with such a happy heart, but you forgot that someone had to travel a long way to deliver it to the front door?

Behind every package that arrives, there is a story about the heat of the streets, traffic jams, difficult-to-find addresses, to small meetings that may seem trivial.

But for a delivery person, simple things like a smile from the recipient, a thank you, or a glass of water in the middle of a hot day can be a form of happiness that is so meaningful.

These simple stories are what are raised in the book Introduction to Happiness, the result of a collaboration between writer Maman Suherman or often called Kang Maman and illustrator Muhammad "Mice" Misrad.

This book was officially launched by JNE together with Gramedia Widiasarana Indonesia (Grasindo) Publishers in a Book Launch event at Gramedia Jalma, Melawai, Jakarta.

Through writing and illustrations, Introduction to Happiness invites readers to see the courier profession from a closer and more human side. For this book, the courier is not just a person who delivers goods, but a part of the life of urban society that is present every day in the midst of buying and selling activities, meetings, and various human stories.

Kang Maman said this book was born from the desire to present simple stories that are often overlooked, even though they actually have great meaning.

"Behind every package that arrives in our hands, there are people who work with dedication, face various challenges, and still try to deliver happiness to others. Through this book, we want to invite readers to see them not only as a delivery of goods, but also as a delivery of hope and happiness," said Kang Maman in Melawai, South Jakarta, Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

For Mice Cartoon, urban life becomes an interesting space to be translated into illustrations. The activities of the couriers who come into direct contact with the community make them part of the face of the city that we see every day.

"Delivery people are part of the face of the city today. They are present in various situations that are familiar with our daily lives. I try to capture those moments through illustrations that are light, close, and hopefully can make readers smile while appreciating their profession," he added.

The illustrations in Introduction to Happiness are not just a complement to the story. Mice's pictures present urban situations with a humorous, authentic approach, as well as tickling. According to Mice, the biggest challenge is translating real experiences into visuals that still feel close to the reader.

"For me, the biggest challenge in illustrating this book is how to translate real stories and experiences into images that still feel authentic. One picture should be able to summarize so many stories and emotions that Kang Maman conveyed through his writing," he concluded.

This creative process also runs dynamically through long discussions between the writer and the illustrator.

"The process of working is also very dynamic. We have discussed a lot and have given each other feedback on each other's work. There are images that are eventually crossed out and must be made from scratch because we want to make sure that the visuals are really in line with the story and the spirit that we want to convey," he said.

The launch of the Introduction to Happiness is also a form of appreciation for JNE for the couriers who are on the front lines, connecting sellers and buyers every day.

Eri Palgunadi, SVP Marketing Group Head of JNE said that this book wants to present a closer perspective on the couriers while raising the small good things that happen in the journey of a shipment. This spirit is in line with JNE's philosophy, Connecting Happiness, through the values of Sharing, Giving, and Serving.

"This book is also a form of appreciation from JNE to the couriers and all parties who have been present in the small goodness of a shipment. We hope that the stories in it can remind readers that happiness can come from simple things, including from the good deeds we do to others," added Eri.

More than just light reading, this book offers a pause to look back at the routines that have been considered ordinary. Every time a package arrives, there is a journey, energy, time, and human beings behind it.

Interestingly, Introduction to Happiness does not attempt to portray happiness as something luxurious or difficult to achieve. Instead, this book shows that happiness can grow from simple human interactions.

"This book also reminds us that when we do good to others, no matter how small the action, we are actually sowing goodness that can give happiness to others," said Kang Maman.

This message makes the story of the delivery person feel relevant to anyone. Because in the end, almost everyone has been in the position of being the recipient of happiness, as well as having the opportunity to give it to others.

The book launch at Gramedia Jalma was also enlivened by a talk show session with Kang Maman, Mice Cartoon, and Eri Palgunadi. Visitors can attend a book signing with the author and illustrator, take photos at the photo booth, and see the character stands provided during the event.

Through this collaboration between JNE and Grasindo, Introduction to Happiness is a reminder that behind every package that reaches our hands, there is a story about hard work, care, and people who try to deliver something meaningful.

Because sometimes, happiness is as simple as a package that finally arrives. Behind its arrival, there is someone who has traveled to deliver it.
