Megawati's Presence at the MPR Annual Session Has Not Been Fixed, SBY Cannot Attend

JAKARTA - Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani said the presence of the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri in the Annual Meeting of the MPR, DPR, and DPD on Friday, August 14, has not been confirmed. Meanwhile, the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) is confirmed to be unable to attend the state agenda.

Puan said that as of Wednesday, August 12, his party was still confirming with Megawati and a number of former presidents and vice presidents who were invited to attend the Annual Meeting.

"We are still confirming the presence of the former president and the former vice president. It hasn't been fixed, maybe tomorrow is the last," Puan told reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, August 12.

According to Puan, the DPR has invited all former presidents and former vice presidents to attend the Annual Meeting of the MPR, DPR, and DPD. However, not all of the invited figures can ensure their presence.

"We invite all former presidents and former vice presidents. Then the invitation is approximately 1,200 people," he said.

In addition to Megawati and SBY, the DPR also invited a number of state officials and other state guests. Puan said the guest list included ambassadors of friendly countries, ministers, coordinating ministers, heads of state institutions, to youth representatives.

"VIP invitations as usual there are ambassadors, ministers, ministers, and heads of such institutions. However, we are still crosschecking the confirmation of attendance, maybe tomorrow is the last," said Puan.

Meanwhile, SBY was unable to attend this year's MPR, DPR, and DPD Annual Sessions. However, the DPR still provides invitations to all former presidents and vice presidents as part of the honor in the national agenda.

Thus, until the Annual Meeting on Friday, August 14, Megawati's presence is still pending confirmation. Meanwhile, SBY has been confirmed not to attend the agenda.
