Puan Ensure Annual Session is More Service, DPR's Joget Action Becomes Evaluation Material

JAKARTA - Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani ensures that members of the council will follow the 2026 MPR RI Annual Meeting and the Joint Meeting of the DPR-DPD RI with more seriousness. Evaluation is carried out after the joget action of a number of DPR members at last year's session became a polemic.

"Insyaallah later on H we will all be more introspective, more attentive, will be able to take care of ourselves to be able to focus more on participating in the state event," said Puan at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 12.

Puan said this after checking the readiness of the Annual Meeting with the Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, and the Chairman of the DPD, Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin.

The Annual Meeting will be held on Friday, August 14, from 08.30 to 11.00 WIB at the Nusantara Building or Kura-Kura Building.

The agenda, which usually takes place on August 16, was advanced because the date this year falls on Sunday.

"So it's not moved, it's in accordance with the rules to be carried out on weekdays," said Puan.

President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to deliver a report on the performance of state institutions and a state of the nation address in the context of the 81st anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

After that, the DPR will hold a plenary meeting to open the first session of the 2026-2027 session on 14.30 WIB.

In the meeting, Prabowo is scheduled to deliver a speech regarding the financial note and the 2027 State Budget.

Puan said the preparation of the event had reached about 80 percent. The inspection includes sound systems and other supporting facilities.

"Tomorrow is the last preparation and on Friday, God willing, everything will be ready," he said.

The Annual Session is expected to be attended by around 1,200 invitees. They include former presidents and vice presidents, cabinet members, and ambassadors of friendly countries.

Prabowo also has eight special guests who come from beneficiaries of government programs, including students.

Regarding the controversy over the dance of council members last year, Puan said the action took place spontaneously after the official event series and the President's speech were completed.

"At that time, it was actually spontaneous because I felt happy," he said.

He emphasized that the DPR would continue to evaluate so that this year's series of hearings would run more orderly.

"The official event is over. It's just when listening to the song, it's because it's spontaneous," said Puan.
