Prabowo Adds School Renovations, Nearly 80,000 Targeted to Be Completed This Year

JAKARTA - The government has massively increased the number of schools that will be renovated in 2026. From the initial plan of around 17,000 schools, the government targets almost 80,000 schools can be repaired this year.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the addition was made at the direction of President Prabowo Subianto after the government received reports and data on the condition of schools.

"What was originally allocated to improve approximately 17,000 schools, then at the direction of the President, the government decided to add approximately 60,000 school points that were repaired or renovated for 2026," said Prasetyo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 12.

According to Prasetyo, the additional budget comes from sifting government spending that is considered less productive and then transferred to programs with greater impact.

"That's why we can add the original 17,000, we have the ability now to add 60,000. So this year we will be able to complete almost close to 80,000," he said.

The target does not stop in 2026. The government hopes that the number of schools that have been repaired can reach 100,000 next year.

"Next year we hope it can reach 100,000, so that in the next two years at the latest all our schools must have been repaired. That's from the physical side of the school," said Prasetyo.

Prasetyo said the government was also still reviewing the education budget in the preparation of the 2027 State Budget to ensure the mandatory allocation of 20 percent in accordance with the law.

According to Prasetyo, the process of preparing the budget is still ongoing and a number of corrections are still being made.
