3 Residents Killed, Pakistan Condemns Houthi Attack on Ship in Red Sea

Pakistan has strongly condemned the Houthi attack on a non-combatant commercial ship in the Red Sea that killed three Pakistani nationals. Pakistan called the attack a violation of international law and a threat to maritime security.

"This kind of attack endangers the lives of innocent people, is a violation of international law, and is a serious threat to freedom of navigation," said Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Wednesday, August 12.

Another Pakistani national was reportedly injured in the attack. In total, six people were killed and 10 others were injured on Tuesday when the Houthis attacked a commercial ship carrying food supplies in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

Dar said that Islamabad was in communication with the Saudi authorities as well as the internationally recognized Yemeni government to get more information about the incident and the underlying conditions.

He also instructed the Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh to "immediately" coordinate with the relevant authorities and take all necessary steps to repatriate the bodies of deceased Pakistanis, as well as provide all possible assistance to injured Pakistanis.

"We continue to monitor the situation and will remain in close contact with the relevant authorities," he continued.
