MotoGP 2027 to be opened in Rio de Janeiro

JAKARTA - MotoGP will open a new era of the 2027 season by holding an official season launch in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Botafogo Beach was chosen as the main location for the event with the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain as a backdrop.

The launch will be held on February 21, 2027. Rio de Janeiro won the right to host after MotoGP recorded great success when it returned to Brazil in 2026.

MotoGP Group CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said Rio de Janeiro has the right combination to deliver a spectacular season launch.

"Rio de Janeiro provides the perfect stage to continue raising the bar, combining iconic locations, passionate fans, and world-class entertainment. We look forward to launching the biggest and most spectacular MotoGP Season ever," said Ezpeleta, quoted by the MotoGP website.

In addition to being a venue to introduce the new season, the event is also an opportunity for fans to see the latest MotoGP motorcycles, meet the riders, watch the team presentation, and enjoy various activities and entertainment on the edge of Botafogo Beach.

A number of international artists along with renowned Brazilian musicians and entertainers are scheduled to join the event. The mix of motorcycle racing, music, and local culture will make the launch of the 2027 season packaged as a global sports festival.

For Rio de Janeiro, the presence of the event is also an opportunity to introduce the city's tourist and cultural destinations to millions of MotoGP spectators around the world. Botafogo Beach, Sugarloaf Mountain, to various iconic landmarks of Rio will be part of the international stage.

The Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Cavaliere, welcomed the enthusiasm of his city's appointment as host.

The decision to hold the season launch event there was none other than because the Brazilian Grand Prix in Goiania took place with sold-out tickets and was attended by almost 150,000 spectators.
