Bank Jakarta Prepares Community Biodigesters in Two Locations in North Jakarta

JAKARTA - Bank Jakarta will build two communal biogas units based on organic waste at Rusunawa Rorotan, Cilincing, and TPS 3R Kelurahan Rawa Badak Utara, North Jakarta. This program is part of the company's contribution in supporting the management of organic waste in Jakarta.

The construction was marked by the laying of the first stone at Rusunawa Rorotan on Monday, August 10, 2026. The activity was attended by the Corporate Secretary of Bank Jakarta, Arie Rinaldi, along with the North Jakarta Government Administration.

Bank Jakarta President Director Agus H. Widodo said the construction of a biogas digester is part of the company's Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program. According to him, biogas digester technology allows organic waste to be processed into biogas as renewable energy and residues that can be used as organic fertilizer.

"The construction of a biogas plant in Rorotan is a tangible contribution from Bank Jakarta to help address the challenges of waste management in Jakarta. We want the TJSL program to run to provide tangible benefits to the community while supporting efforts to maintain the environment of Jakarta," said Agus in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 12.

The program is also part of the implementation of Bank Jakarta's Sustainable Finance Action Plan (RAKB) 2026 which includes organic waste management, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and renewable energy utilization.

Each biodigester is designed to be able to process up to 250 kilograms of organic waste per day. With two units built, the total processing capacity reaches 500 kilograms per day.

Based on technical studies, the two biodigester units are projected to produce around 37.5 cubic meters of biogas per day and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 423 kilograms of CO2e per day or 154.4 tons of CO2e per year.

Bank Jakarta Corporate Secretary Arie Rinaldi said waste management requires collaboration and continuity of programs between the business world and the government.

"Through the construction of this biodigester, Bank Jakarta takes part in the management of organic waste from sources and encourages waste to provide added value for the community. Collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is an important part so that waste management efforts can be carried out more integrated," said Arie.

Previously, Bank Jakarta had supported the construction of a communal biogas plant in Pekayon Village, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, which was inaugurated in November 2025.

Arie said the experience from the biodigester project in Pekayon was the basis for the company to expand the use of organic waste processing technology through cooperation with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

Through the construction of biodigesters in Rorotan and North Rawa Badak, Bank Jakarta and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government target to strengthen community-based organic waste management while supporting the creation of a cleaner and sustainable environment.
