iOS 27 Brings Birthday Reminders with Fireworks Animation

JAKARTA - iOS 27 presents a new feature in the form of birthday reminders that appear when users make or receive a call from someone whose birthday is stored in the contact. The notification is equipped with a fireworks animation that appears on the iPhone screen.

The feature is available in the iOS 27 beta version and works through the Phone app. When a user calls someone, the app checks the person's contact card to see what information is stored.

The same applies when users receive a call. The Phone app does use information on the contact card to display the name and possibly the contact's photo. In iOS 27, the system also makes use of the date of birth information stored in it.

If the contact's birthday coincides with the day when the call takes place, the iPhone will display a birthday reminder banner. The notification appears both when the user makes a call and when receiving a call from the contact.

The banner also comes with a fireworks animation so that the birthday reminder is easier to see. However, Apple still provides information regarding the source of the data used to display the notification.

Inside the banner there is a small note that reads "Birthday - Found in Contacts". If the banner is tapped, the user will be directed to the complete contact card to check the stored birthday information.

The feature shows how iOS 27 makes use of information already stored on the device to provide relevant information to users. This mechanism does not require data from third-party companies to display the reminder.

This feature cannot be categorized as Apple Intelligence because it only takes information from the contact card of the person being contacted. However, the approach is similar to Apple Intelligence's idea of utilizing the information available on the device to provide information when needed.

The reminder comes on the anniversary, so users may not get a notification far in advance to prepare gifts or greetings. However, this new iOS 27 feature adds a small addition to the iPhone experience, especially when users communicate with contacts who store their birthday information.
