Death Toll in Colombian Earthquake Rises to 132, 570 Injured

JAKARTA - The number of deaths due to a strong earthquake in Colombia reached 132 people, while 570 others were injured, reported the Caracol television station, citing the latest government data.

Previously, Colombian authorities said 111 people were killed and another 87 were injured.

According to initial information, the earthquake damaged 1,575 residential buildings and 61 of them were completely destroyed. Buildings that suffered damage included 18 health facilities, 52 educational institutions, 18 roads, and seven airports.

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake shook Colombia on Monday morning. The epicenter of the earthquake was near the administrative area of San Jose del Palmar in the Choco District. The earthquake tremors were felt in most of Colombia, as well as in neighboring countries, namely Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama.

Colombian authorities declared a national state of disaster and deployed rescue units to the most affected areas. Search and rescue teams were deployed from Bogota, Envigado, Yopal, and Medellin.
