Teqball has the potential to get a medal for Indonesia when it debuts at the 2026 Asian Games

JAKARTA - Teqball has a great opportunity to contribute medals for the Indonesian Contingent when it makes history as a debutant sport (cabor) in the 2026 Asian Games which will take place in Japan.

Harry Warganegara as the Executive Committee of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) and Deputy Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian team for the 2026 Asian Games said that a number of international achievements that have been made by athletes are an important capital to face this year's Asian Games.

"Seeing his track record, teqball has the opportunity to contribute medals for the Indonesian Contingent at the 2026 Asian Games," said Harry when he visited the national teqball training center at the State University of Surabaya (Unesa), Surabaya, East Java.

Teqball is a sport that combines football skills with a game on a curved table. The fast and attractive game makes the sport grow rapidly on the international stage.

Although it is a relatively new sport that has developed in Indonesia, teqball has the potential to deliver a surprise in the four-year sports festival that only involves countries in the Asian region.

"At least from the three numbers we are following, God willing, we can enter the final. That is our hope. Of course the target is a medal, thank God we can get a gold medal. If you have ambitions you have to be high, but we also have to be realistic," he said.

The visit carried out by the CdM team aims to dialogue with the management, coaches, and athletes. This activity makes the team able to see firsthand what the team's readiness is before departing for the Sakura Country.

The Chairman of the Central Board of the Indonesian Teqball Sports Association (PP POTSI), Jovinus Carolus Legawa, said that the preparation of the Indonesian teqball team has been going on for about two years after they saw the opportunity for teqball to develop and enter various international multi-branch events.

"With the preparations we have made, we certainly hope to give the best for Indonesia. We ask for prayers and support so that we can sing the Indonesian Raya song in Japan later," said Jovinus.

The Indonesian Teqball National Team (Timnas) will be handled by a coach from Hungary, Gabriel Kota, strengthened by four athletes who have experience competing at the international level, including appearing at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games and winning a silver medal.

The 2026 Asian Games will take place from September 19 to October 4, 2026 in Aichi and Nagoya. Indonesia is guaranteed to send as many as 432 athletes from 35 sports with the target of bringing home four gold medals.
