Trump Reportedly Wants to End Iran War Even Without Nuclear Deal

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump is rumored to have floated the idea of ending the war with Iran even without a nuclear deal, according to a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report citing US officials.

Over the past few weeks, Trump is said to be preparing a plan to declare victory in the war against Iran if Tehran fully opens the Strait of Hormuz, according to the WSJ.

The report also said Trump had personally told his senior advisers he wanted to agree to a deal with Iran even without a nuclear deal.

A White House official told the WSJ, the US has met all of the country's military objectives related to Iran.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, the official said Trump is currently focusing on maintaining the smooth flow of energy supply traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. He also still has the option of military operations if Iran continues to attack merchant ships there.

To his senior advisers, President Trump expressed his belief that Tehran would not continue the nuclear program as long as he was in office, given that the US had destroyed three Iranian nuclear facilities in 2025.

Then in a number of recent meetings, Trump also admitted that he believed the threat of a US attack on Iran was enough to deter Tehran.

Officials have hinted that Trump could choose to extend the ceasefire for an indefinite period if Washington can control Iran's nuclear program.

Trump is also said to lift the US blockade of Iranian ports if Tehran fully opens the Strait of Hormuz.

Previously, the US President said he had asked for the cancellation of further attacks on Iran amid hopes of reaching a peace agreement that would include the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and an agreement on the nuclear program.

On the other hand, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) on Wednesday stated that Iran and Oman had agreed on the geographical details for ship sailing routes through the Strait of Hormuz safely.
