Iran insists it will not open the Strait of Hormuz until the US meets these conditions
JAKARTA - Iran has confirmed that it will not open shipping access in the Strait of Hormuz before the United States (US) meets a number of absolute conditions, including stopping all forms of threats against Tehran.
The firm statement was made by the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, on Sunday.
"The Strait of Hormuz will not be opened until the US corrects its attitude and stops threatening the Islamic Republic," Zolghadr said, as quoted by Press TV.
Iran's Absolute Conditions for the United States
In addition to the cessation of threats, the senior Iranian official revealed several key requirements that Washington must meet, including:
Termination of Military Operations: The US must stop all military activities targeting Iran and its allies. Lifting Sanctions and Blockade: Full release of economic sanctions and sea blockade that harms Iran. Withdrawal of Troops: Withdrawal of all US military units from the region around Iran. Tehran's decisive move is in contrast to Washington's previous claims. US President Donald Trump had stated that he had canceled plans to attack Iran as part of the initiation of a peace deal. The deal includes plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and renegotiate Iran's nuclear program.
On the other hand, technical steps related to the governance of the waters continue. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (5/8) confirmed that Tehran and Oman had reached an agreement on the geographical details of the shipping route of ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
