Big City Weather Sunday Dominated by Cloudy, Heavy Rain Watch for a Number of Regions

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the weather in a number of major cities in Indonesia on Sunday will be dominated by cloudy to cloudy conditions.

A number of cities that are expected to experience this weather include Banda Aceh, Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang, Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Pontianak, Palangkaraya, Banjarmasin, and Samarinda.

"Meanwhile, light rain is potentially occurring in Pekanbaru and Padang," said BMKG Praktirawan M. Rizki in a daily broadcast that was followed from Jakarta, as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, August 9.

BMKG also predicts hazy conditions in Palembang, Yogyakarta, and Tanjung Selor. Meanwhile, Bandar Lampung has the potential to experience air conditions in the form of smoke or fog.

Turning to the eastern part of Indonesia, the weather in a number of cities is expected to be in the condition of sunny to cloudy to cloudy. This condition has the potential to occur in Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, and Manokwari.

Meanwhile, light rain is expected to hit Mamuju, Ambon, Nabire, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke. Meanwhile, Sorong has the potential to experience smoke or fog conditions.

Although most major cities are predicted to be cloudy, BMKG reminds the public of the potential for moderate to heavy rain in a number of areas.

The potential rain is influenced by the existence of wind deceleration areas or convergence observed in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, Bengkulu, Jambi, Papua, Central Papua, Papua Mountains, and South Papua.

In addition to convergence, BMKG also detects wind meeting areas or confluences in a number of waters, namely the northern Malacca Strait, the Andaman Sea, the South China Sea, the Sulawesi Sea, and the Pacific Ocean north of Halmahera Island to the northern region of Papua.

This atmospheric phenomenon has the potential to support the growth of rain clouds around the convergence and confluence lines.

BMKG appeals to the public, especially in areas with moderate to heavy rain potential, to increase vigilance against changes in weather conditions.
