Barantin ensures optimal quarantine services to control shrimp exports

JAKARTA - Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) Abdul Kadir Karding ensures that quarantine services are optimally carried out for various export commodities in Indonesia, one of which is in escorting shrimp exports to various countries.

To ensure that the system runs optimally, Karding directly reviewed the implementation of quarantine services at PT Bogatama Marinusa (PT BOMAR) Makassar. This company is one of the seafood exporters who supply shrimp products to various countries with the support of a quality control system that integrates quarantine services.

"Our arrival is part of Barantin's duty to ensure that the flow of all shrimp or fisheries, both on the island, between islands and between countries, must be healthy, the quality and quality are maintained. What is in Bomar is an ecosystem with very high standards," said Karding in Makassar, quoted by Antara, Saturday, August 8.

During his visit, Karding directly reviewed the entire series of export shrimp production processes, ranging from the breaded process to packaging.

The review was carried out to ensure the implementation of the commodity health assurance system, sanitation standards, food safety, and the effectiveness of export certification services which are prerequisites for international trade.

The success of Indonesian shrimp penetrating international markets, he said, is not only determined by product quality, but also by a quarantine system that ensures each commodity meets health, safety, and traceability requirements according to the standards of the destination country.

Meanwhile, PT BOMAR Tigor Chendarma's CEO said that quarantine services have become an important part of export sustainability.

According to him, the certainty of fast and credible services provides assurance for his export commodities in meeting international trade standards while maintaining the trust of trading partners abroad.

"Quarantine services are not just an administrative requirement, but an important part of ensuring that every product we send meets the health and safety standards required by the destination country," he said.

Throughout Semester I 2026, PT BOMAR has exported 859.4 tons of shrimp with a value of IDR 148.2 billion. The volume consists of 765,132 kilograms of vaname shrimp worth IDR 122.5 billion and 94,292 kilograms of windu shrimp worth IDR 25.7 billion.

All commodities have undergone quarantine measures and issued 69 quarantine certificates as export requirements to various destination countries, including Japan, Vietnam, and China.

Meanwhile, the Head of the South Sulawesi Quarantine, Sitti Chadidjah, revealed that the quarantine service has a strategic role in maintaining the smooth export from South Sulawesi. All commodities that will be sent abroad are ensured to meet health and technical requirements according to the provisions of the destination country before the quarantine certificate is issued.

"Our commitment is to ensure that every export commodity has met all quarantine requirements so that it can be accepted by the destination country without obstacles. On the other hand, we continue to improve the quality of services so that the certification process is fast, accurate, and provides certainty for business actors," he said.
