Indonesia and Japan cooperate to develop Keeta Fire Signaling Technology

JAKARTA - PT Moda Integrasi Transportasi Jabodetabek (MITJ) and Nippon Signal Co., Ltd. have collaborated on the development of telecommunications and signaling technology to improve safety and support the modernization of the railway system in Indonesia.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia, Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir, said that Indonesia and Japan's cooperation in the transportation sector had shown tangible results through the construction of the Jakarta MRT.

"MRT Jakarta is a tangible symbol of Indonesia-Japan friendship," he said in a press release from the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) Tokyo, Friday.

According to him, the partnership between the two countries now not only includes infrastructure development, but also the development of safety technology and signaling systems.

"The agreement signed today shows that our cooperation does not stop at infrastructure development, but also includes safety and signaling technology that protects millions of passengers every day," he said.

Kartini added that the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo will continue to support the development of strategic partnerships between Indonesia and Japan in the transportation sector. The cooperation was marked by the signing of a Head of Agreement (HoA) by PT MITJ President Director Fuad I.Z.​​​​​​ Fachroeddin and Foreign Manager of Nippon Signal Kota Kinugasa in Tokyo, Japan, on August 3, 2026.

Fuad said the cooperation with Nippon Signal is a strategic step to bring international railway safety standards to the Jabodetabek area.

"The precision of Japanese technology combined with Indonesia's needs will produce a safer, reliable, and integrated transportation system," he said.

Fuad added that the agreement would be the foundation for long-term collaboration between the two companies.

The signing of the HoA is part of the series of PT MITJ Business Matching Forum held by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo together with PT MITJ.

The forum brought together PT MITJ and its strategic partner, PT Duta Sarana Perkasa, with more than 10 Japanese companies to explore opportunities for cooperation in the Jakarta MRT Phase 3 east-west project.

The companies are engaged in precast concrete, transit-oriented development (TOD), and railway technology.

In addition to the signing of the HoA, the forum was also filled with the presentation of the MRT Jakarta Phase 3 project and business meetings between the Indonesian delegation and a number of Japanese companies.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo stated that the activity was part of an effort to encourage Japanese investment and technology transfer to Indonesia, as well as strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the sustainable transportation infrastructure sector.
