Trump Orders Investigation into Leak of Information on Depletion of US Ammunition Stockpiles

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump has ordered a new investigation into the disclosure of information regarding the Pentagon's ammunition stockpiles.

This news was reported by the Wall Street Journal newspaper on Thursday (6/8) citing a number of sources.

The investigation order was triggered by a CNN report that said the US had used about 80 percent of its THAAD missile defense system inventory and about half of its Patriot anti-aircraft missiles, mainly for military operations against Iran.

The broadcaster then reported that Trump was angry at the leak of the information to the media.

Previously, NBC reported that the United States Department of Defense would hold an emergency meeting to discuss the lack of weapons after an angry phone call from Donald Trump to US Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg.

Reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, citing a number of sources, the report states that the meeting will take place on Friday evening local time and will be attended by a number of high-ranking military officials and officials in charge of procurement of military equipment.

Previously, on June 24, the White House asked the US Congress to provide an additional $87.6 billion, including $67.15 billion for the Pentagon.

Most of the funding package is to cover costs related to the US military aggression against Iran.

At the end of July, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimated that AStelah spent more than 1,500 missiles on the Patriot air defense system and 200 interceptor missiles for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) air defense system.

This condition makes the US face a significant missile shortage.
