The Fact of the Discovery of 995 Weapons at a Private School in Jakarta, from Chronology to its Legal Status

JAKARTA - The discovery of hundreds of firearms, airsoft guns, ammunition, and related equipment in one of the rooms of a private school in the Pondok Pinang area, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, has become a public spotlight. A total of 995 guns and various equipment were found in the educational environment that covers TK, SD, SMP, to SMA levels, raising questions about their origin, legality, and supervision.

The findings raised many questions, ranging from the chronology of the discovery, the type of goods secured, the explanation of the party who claimed to be the owner of the airsoft gun, to how the law regulates the possession of firearms in Indonesia. The following are a number of facts that have been revealed.

1. Starting from the opening of the foundation room

The school's lawyer, Hermawanto, explained that the discovery occurred on July 10 and 11, 2026 when the foundation opened a number of rooms in the school environment for operational needs.

During the process of opening the room, the foundation found hundreds of weapons and other equipment in the room that was previously used by the former Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Directors with the initials IWD who had been dismissed.

"So on July 10 and 11, almost a month ago, we found 995 guns. In it there are firearms, including ammunition and also some other weapon accessories," said Hermawanto at the South Jakarta Metro Police, Thursday, August 6.

Hermawanto emphasized that the findings were then reported to the police because all the items were found in the room previously occupied by the former chairman of the foundation's board of directors.

"We report it because all of this was found in the room of the chairman of the foundation who we have fired," he said.

2. Found ammunition, bullet-making tools to suspected narcotics

The Expert Staff of the Foundation's Founding Chairman, Untung Sangaji, revealed that the school originally only wanted to open a room that would be used for the operational needs of teachers.

However, when the door was opened with the police, they found various items suspected to be related to weapons.

"We originally wanted to open a room for the needs of schoolchildren. However, suddenly when we opened a room for the benefit of this school, we found equipment called weapons. Airsoft guns that can kill because the bullets are plain and there is no groove," said Untung Sangaji.

In addition to hundreds of guns, ammunition, gun accessories, bullet-making tools, suspected narcotics of the type of methamphetamine and marijuana, and a VCD suspected of containing pornographic content were also found in the room.

Untung admitted that he was surprised that the items could be in the school environment.

"How can a bullet-making tool be in this school environment? Why in a school that we respect very much, TK, SD, SMP, SMA, there are people who secretly do their activities there?" he said.

3. The police are still investigating

The South Jakarta Metro Police confirmed the discovery of firearms and airsoft guns in one of the rooms of the private school foundation.

The police received a report from the community on July 15, 2026. Before the report was received, investigators first made a Model A Police Report as the basis for initial handling before the investigation process continued.

South Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Officer AKP Joko Adi Wibowo said the police were still investigating the findings.

"The South Jakarta Metro Police has received a report from the public regarding the discovery of weapons (consisting of air guns and firearms) stored in one of the rooms at a school foundation located in Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, which was then made in the form of a police report dated July 15, 2026," he said.

4. There is FN P90, AK-47, M4 Carbine to a bunker-like room

The items found have various types.

Among them there are four long barrels, two short barrels, silencers, seven magazines of various types, ammunition of various calibers, a number of airsoft gun units in the form of FN P90, AK-47, and M4 Carbine, taser guns, bullet-making tools, and bullet-making manuals.

In addition, the school also revealed the existence of a room that resembles a bunker.

Hermawanto said the room was still locked tightly so the school chose to ask the police for help to open it.

"There is still one room like a bunker that is all locked tightly, we can't get in there. We will also ask the police to help us open this room because if we are afraid of legal risks, then we ask the police to open it. So we want this bunker to be opened as well," he said.

5. PT Lokta: Airsoft gun legal and licensed

The President Director of PT Lokta Karya Perbakin Alhadid Endar Putra, who claimed to be the owner of the airsoft gun, stated that all the goods were legal and had permits.

"The point is that everything has a permit, that the findings of 995 are all permitted," said Alhadid.

"Airsoft gun, 995 yes. Everything has a permit," he said.

According to Alhadid, hundreds of airsoft guns have been at the location since 2020 and are used as extracurricular shooting equipment at schools.

"And everyone also knows, PT Lokta Karya Perbakin has a permit and it has been agreed and known for the shooting extracurricular activities. For the shooting extracurricular in 2020. Because there is a builder with the initials S," he said.

He explained that extracurricular activities stopped after the mentor with the initials S died in 2022.

Alhadid also said that the airsoft gun that was secured by the police could no longer be used.

"So yesterday we checked the one confiscated by the police, yes it was no longer usable. So this is just a clarification, we have all the permits," he added.

In addition, Alhadid denied that the narcotics and VCD found belonged to him. He also stated that the firearm found did not belong to PT Lokta, although he admitted to knowing the owner.

"It's not a fire. We have also clarified it at the Police, there is a owner and there is also a permit. We give the permit," he explained.

In Indonesia, ownership of firearms is strictly regulated. Firearms can only be owned by law enforcement officers and certain groups who obtain official permits from the National Police in accordance with laws and regulations.

Meanwhile, airsoft gun ownership is also not free. Airsoft guns can only be owned by members of shooting clubs who meet administrative requirements and obtain ownership permits in accordance with the provisions of the National Police. Any misuse, storage without permission, or possession of illegal firearms can be prosecuted.

Until now, the police are still investigating the legal status of all the items found, including matching ownership permits, the origin of the weapons, and the party responsible for storing them in the school environment.
