Meeting with the Palestinian Ambassador, Pramono Emphasizes Jakarta's Support for the People of Gaza 

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung received the Ambassador of Palestine to Indonesia Abdalfatah A.K. Alsattari at the DKI Jakarta City Hall. During the meeting, Pramono emphasized the support of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government for the humanitarian struggle of the Palestinian people, especially in the midst of the ongoing crisis in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

Pramono said Jakarta has a long-standing relationship with Palestine, including through sister city cooperation between Jakarta and Al-Quds Al-Sharif which has been ongoing since October 21, 2007. He expressed concern over the humanitarian conditions that the Palestinian people are still facing.

"We reiterate our deep concern about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories. Civilians continue to face loss of life, repeated displacement, and limited access to clean water, food, and health services," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Thursday, August 6.

According to Pramono, support for Palestine is part of Jakarta's commitment in line with the attitude of the Indonesian Government.

"The DKI Jakarta Government supports the right of the Palestinian people to live in peace, security, and to obtain full dignity. Jakarta together with the Indonesian Government will continue to support the struggle of the Palestinian people who are currently facing various humanitarian issues," he explained.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, he said, also continues to distribute humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza through BAZNAS (BAZIS) DKI Jakarta.

Apart from the humanitarian issue, Pramono welcomed the plan of the Palestinian community in Indonesia to participate in the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia at the Palestinian Embassy in Jakarta.

"We are ready to support the commemoration to become a symbol of closer friendship between the Indonesian and Palestinian people," said Pramono.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Abdalfatah A.K. Alsattari expressed appreciation for the support of the Indonesian government and people for the Palestinian people's struggle.

During the meeting, Abdalfatah also explained the humanitarian conditions that the Palestinian people are still facing, especially in Gaza and the West Bank, and hopes that peace can be realized soon.

"I congratulate the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the Indonesian government, and all Indonesian people on the upcoming Independence Day. We greatly appreciate the support that Indonesia has provided to Palestine," said Abdalfatah.
