BRIN prepares biosaline rice for saline land, national research mapped until 2045

JAKARTA - The National Research and Innovation Agency or BRIN is preparing a number of food research to support national needs. One of them that will be presented to President Prabowo Subianto is biosaline rice for saline land.

BRIN Head Arif Satria said President Prabowo had repeatedly touched on the importance of producing rice in locations with saline land. According to Arif, BRIN already has the variety.

"The President also often talks about how to produce rice in locations that do have salty land. Well, that's biosaline rice. We already have it," said Arif at the Presidential Palace Complex, Thursday, August 6.

Arif said the next challenge was to accelerate the production of seed results from BRIN research so that it could be used more widely by the community. For this reason, BRIN coordinates and collaborates with the Ministry of Agriculture.

"The most important thing is how the process of accelerating production from the seeds produced by BRIN so that it is widely used by the community," said Arif.

In addition to superior varieties, BRIN also prepares agricultural equipment in the food cluster. These products are part of about 12 research clusters that were exhibited to President Prabowo at the Palace.

The cluster includes food, energy, products supporting fishing villages, Free Nutritious Meals or MBG, space, aviation, nuclear, rare earth metals, housing, transportation, and health.

Arif said BRIN brought more than 150 curated products. The number could reach 200 products, although not all innovations can be brought to the Palace because some are in various regions and some are large in size.

BRIN will also convey cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology regarding the roadmap for Indonesian research.

According to Arif, the roadmap is important to provide direction for national research until 2045. The document will determine the research agenda that needs to be carried out in the long term.

"We have cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture in formulating the roadmap for Indonesian research. To provide direction for research in Indonesia in the future, the roadmap is important and what research agenda must be done until 2045," said Arif.

He said President Prabowo has a great commitment to research and innovation as the foundation for Indonesia's economic progress.
