Firm, Luis Figo Urges FIFA President Gianni Infantino to Resign

JAKARTA - Legendary Portuguese midfielder Luis Figo has urged FIFA President Gianni Infantino to step down.

"Today, I join various parties in the world of football to urge Gianni Infantino to resign from his position as President of FIFA," Figo wrote on his X account, Thursday.

According to Figo, Infantino has tarnished the honor of the post which he had previously promised to raise his status and commit lies and deceit.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid player assessed that Infantino was trying to enrich himself at the expense of the sport that he should serve.

Figo assessed that Infantino lost the support of his senior staff, his closest advisers, and most of the people who devoted their lives to football, and even from the recipients of the FIFA Peace Award.

"It's too late to save his dignity, but it's not too late to save football. He has to step down. Now too," Figo concluded.

Infantino is in the spotlight of the football public after holding a discourse to sell FIFA World Cup shares to private parties.

The discourse triggered a harsh reaction from several parties, including the confederations of several continents such as UEFA, Concacaf, and AFC.
