Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) ensures that the Mal High Fence has been dismantled.

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago has ensured that regional heads have asked several shopping center managers to dismantle the fences that had previously been installed at a number of malls.

The demolition of the fence was carried out for several reasons, one of which was violating certain permits.

"I don't want to mention which mall, but roughly the local government has carried out the crackdown," said Djamari as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 5.

However, Djamari did not explain in detail what the permit had violated.

According to him, the installation of the fence is not related to the anticipated anarchist action that is rumored to occur in August 2026, but only for the sake of mall security in general.

"So, all of this is the security interests of their own and it is also considered not to meet the permit as done by some places," he said.

Therefore, Djamari asked the public not to panic and entrust all aspects of security to the government.

Meanwhile, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government confirmed that the capital city was safe so that it asked mall and office managers to immediately remove the newly installed fence because they did not need to feel overly worried.

"Regarding the installation of the fence, I also observed. Maybe part of the concern, but later at the right time I will ask for the fences to be removed again," said DKI Governor Pramono Anung at Blok M Hub Jakarta, Friday (31/7).

Pramono highlighted the incident and reminded him of the protests and riots in August 2025.

He said his party would coordinate with the TNI, Polri and other law enforcement agencies to maintain security and order in Jakarta.

"Hopefully Jakarta will always be safe, comfortable, and make everyone happy to enjoy Jakarta like today we all enjoy Blok M," he said.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI) stated that the installation of a fence at shopping centers, including in the Jakarta area, was an effort to create public order.

Chairman of the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI) Alphonzus Widjaja said that installing a fence is not new and many shopping centers have been equipped with fences since they were built.

Therefore, he emphasized that the installation of the fence was also intended as a barrier between the shopping center area and the public realm, including as a location for public expression of opinion.

Based on monitoring at the location, it was seen that the newly installed fence along 100 meters with a height of 2.5 meters stretched in front of the Kota Kasablanka (Kokas) shopping center in South Jakarta.

The gray fence was installed near the main car entrance from Casablanca Highway.

Previously, a number of shopping centers in various regions, such as Surabaya and Jakarta, were crowded on social media, installing fences simultaneously.
