Ready to Release the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, the Project to Rewrite History Enters the Final Stage

JAKARTA - Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon emphasized that the project to rewrite Indonesian history is targeted to be completed and ready to be released in August 2026. The launch is planned to coincide with the anniversary of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17.

Currently, the preparation of the manuscript has entered the final stage (finalization), with the main focus on improving the layout (layout) and collecting photographic documentation.

Fadli revealed that the process of completing the book still faces technical obstacles related to the collection of a number of original photos and intellectual property rights (IP). However, he remains optimistic that these obstacles can be overcome in a timely manner.

"I target this August, but there are a number of photos that have not yet been obtained, especially original photos and these are related to IP," said Fadli Zon when met by reporters at the Ministry of Culture building, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/8/2026).

To solve the problem of the availability of documentation, the Ministry of Culture actively coordinates with various institutions that own historical photo archives, one of which is Perum LKBN ANTARA.

"So, it's still a little constrained in the photo, while the layout is already running and almost finished," added Fadli.

He hopes that all stages can be completed according to schedule so that the launch will not be delayed from the initial target.

"The target is this August, the target yes, hopefully it won't miss," he said.

Involving Historians and Academics

The project of rewriting Indonesian history is one of the strategic programs of the Ministry of Culture that attracts public attention. The government is committed to presenting a more comprehensive and objective national history narrative based on in-depth scientific studies from historians and academics.

With the process now entering the final stage of maturation, the public is looking forward to the official release of the history book as one of the valuable gifts on the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
