Carlos Alcaraz Absent at the 2026 Cincinnati Open

JAKARTA - Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the 2026 ATP 1000 Cincinnati Open which starts next week. The Spanish player has not been able to return to the competitive arena because he is still recovering from an injury to his wrist.

Missing Cincinnati adds to the long list of major events missed by Alcaraz. The same injury also forced him to miss the Italian Open in Rome, the French Open, the entire grass-court season, and the Wimbledon Grand Slam.

The 23-year-old last competed at the Barcelona Open in April 2026, shortly after reaching the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters in the same month and losing to rival Jannik Sinner.

Alcaraz's journey stopped in the second round when he appeared at the Barcelona Open. He won the first round match against Otto Virtanen, but then decided to withdraw from the tournament due to his wrist problems.

So far this season, Alcaraz has a record of 22 wins and three losses and is still ranked second in the world. He is behind the solid Sinner in the top spot and is followed by Alexander Zverev in third place with a narrow point gap.

Alcaraz started the season very well after completing the Career Grand Slam with his victory at the Australian Open. The trophy at Melbourne Park is the only Grand Slam title he has never won before.

The main draw of the Cincinnati Open will start on August 13 and run until August 23, 2026. Alcaraz is the defending champion after his opponent, Sinner, decided to withdraw in the middle of last year's final due to illness.

Even though he hasn't competed since April 2026, Alcaraz is still on the list of participants in the 2026 US Open which starts on August 30. He came to the Grand Slam event at the end of the season with the status of defending champion.
