Released After 28 Years, Sid Wilson's Behavior Is Said to Be the Trigger for His Dismissal from Slipknot
JAKARTA - Internal disputes have shaken the Iowa-based heavy metal band, Slipknot. Sid Wilson is reportedly fired permanently after 28 years.
The dismissal of the 49-year-old musician is said to have been triggered by the disappointment of the members of the band towards Wilson's attitude and treatment of his colleagues in the band.
Launching a report by TMZ, the decision to fire Sid Wilson was actually not a sudden action, but rather an accumulation of long-standing disappointments.
Internal sources familiar with the situation revealed that Slipknot management had been preparing an official announcement regarding Wilson's departure this week. However, the planned scenario of separation was destroyed after the news of the dismissal was leaked to the public.
The information leak reportedly caused tensions within Slipknot because the group lost control over the flow of information about the dismissal.
Amid the noisy response of fans on social media, Slipknot guitarist Jim Root uploaded a cryptic message via his Instagram Stories with the background of the song "Til We Die". The upload seemed to hint that the public should not immediately believe all the rumors that are circulating.
"Don't believe everything you read," Jim Root wrote in his post. "Stop. Think. Take a breath. Absorb for a moment. Maybe. Just try to wait until there is more information."
Even though Jim Root gave a signal of doubt, TMZ insisted on sticking to their report regarding Wilson's dismissal.
Wilson's departure comes as a surprise considering he was one of the key pillars who had joined since 1998, shortly before Slipknot released their self-titled debut album that catapulted their name into the global music scene.
In addition to contributing to creating the distinctive sound effects and music background feel of Slipknot, the musician who also performs solo under the stage name DJ Starscream is known to be very energetic on stage.
For information, this dismissal issue also adds to the long list of dynamics of Wilson's personal life which is quite heavy in recent months.
In March, his relationship with Kelly Osbourne - Ozzy Osbourne's daughter - was reported to have ended. The couple, who started dating in 2022 and got engaged in July 2025, decided to end the engagement.
Until now, Slipknot management and Sid Wilson have not given any official statements or open confirmations regarding the status of the musician's membership in the band.
