Responding to Greenpeace's actions at GIIAS, Bahlil denied there was a new mining permit in Raja Ampat

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia spoke up regarding Greenpeace's action at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in BSD, Tangerang.

On that occasion, he denied the issuance of three new nickel mining permits in Raja Ampat, West Papua, as information provided by Greenpeace.

"Who said that? Greenpeace is like he knows everything. Maybe he is the one who issued the permit this time," said Bahlil, quoted on Tuesday, August 4.

The General Chair of the Golongan Karya Party said that his party had revoked four of the five IUPs in the Raja Ampat area. For this reason, only PT Gag Nikel is still allowed to operate in Raja Ampat.

"I have already withdrawn," he said.

Bahlil said, other mining permits that had been issued came from the local government during a time when the authority to grant permits was still at the regional level in accordance with the provisions of the legislation at that time.

"The others we have withdrawn. And the permits were issued by the governor and the regent because at that time the authority was in the region. So there was no permit issued by the central government," said Bahlil.
