Cardiac Arrest, A Condition Where The Heart Stops Beating, Which Needs A Fast And Accurate Handling

JAKARTA – The heart is a core organ of the body, when it experiences one thing, it can affect its condition.

As reported by VOI today, Monday 14 June, it was reported that Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest while competing in the middle of the football field in the match against Finland at Parken Stadium, Copenhagen on Saturday night (12/6).

Martin Boesen said Eriksen was lying on his side when the Danish doctor arrived on the pitch. Eriksen was still breathing, his heart was still beating and he immediately performed CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation). What causes Christian Erikson's heart condition?

Cardiac arrest is a condition where the heart stops beating which treatment must race against time. Because it occurs suddenly, this condition of heart failure is also known as sudden cardiac arrest.

As reported by Kompas, Prof. A. Purba, Head of the Center for Cardiovascular Research, Faculty of Medicine, University of Padjadjaran, said that cardiac arrest conditions can be caused by various things.

“If we find it like that, we are racing against time. The reason someone dies due to cardiac arrest is not because there is no cardiologist or not because of the emergency room facilities, but it is determined who will find it first”, explained Professor Purba.

He added that the heart should not be deprived of oxygen and deprived of blood for more than 6 minutes. The condition of the cessation of heart function is different from a heart attack. Because the heart that stops working can be triggered by various unexpected things.

Professor Purba explained that cardiac arrest could be caused by angina attacks, thickening of the walls of the heart or cardiomyopathy, abnormalities in the heart's electrical system, abnormalities in the heart vessels due to calcification, significantly increased heart rate and heart valve abnormalities.

Prevention of cardiac arrest requires various steps. The most important thing is to live a healthy lifestyle and do regular medical check-ups. For those of you who are less than 40 years old, it is enough to do it once a year. While the age of 40 years and over twice a year perform routine checks.

Professor Purba added that regular exercise needs to be adjusted to the heart capacity of each person, especially those who are not athletes. Because spurring the heart to work beyond the limits of its ability can trigger the cessation of the heart's work.

Based on expert recommendations, exercise to prevent cardiac arrest should be aerobic such as walking, swimming, cycling at least 3 times a week with a duration of 30 to 60 minutes.

To live a healthy lifestyle, you also need to be good at managing stress because organ health cannot be separated from a person's mental condition.
