17 Years 349 Days Old, Bellingham Becomes Youngest Player In Euro Main Stage

JAKARTA - Jude Bellingham broke the record for the youngest player to appear in the main round of the Euros, after playing for the England national team which beat Croatia 1-0 in the opening match of Group D of Euro 2020 at Wembley, London, last Sunday night.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder entered the field in the 82nd minute, replacing Harry Kane as England had already taken the lead over Croatia.

With this performance, Bellingham displaced Jetro Willems, who was previously the youngest player in the main round of the Euros when he appeared for the Netherlands at the age of 18 years and 71 days in 2012.

Bellingham broke the record at the age of 17 years 349 days, according to UEFA's official website.

Previously, the record was held for nearly two decades by Belgian legend Enzo Scifo, who appeared at Euro 1984 aged 18 years 115 days.

Bellingham's name could shift in the next few days, given that the youngest player in the entire Euro 2020 squad is Polish midfielder Kacper Kozlowski, who was born almost four months after Bellingham.
