BPS Reveals Rice Prices in July 2026 Increased at All Levels of Trade

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the price of rice at the milling and consumer levels still increased throughout July 2026.

The increase occurred both monthly and annually, with premium quality rice at the milling level recording the highest annual price growth.

BPS Distribution and Services Deputy Director Ateng Hartono said the average rice price at the milling level in July 2026 increased by 0.94 percent on a monthly basis (month-to-month/mtm) and increased by 5.11 percent compared to July 2025 on an annual basis (year-on-year/yoy).

"The average rice price at the mill in July 2026 increased by 0.94 percent in total or in terms of mtm and increased by 5.11 percent in yoy," said Ateng in a press conference, Monday, August 3.

Based on its quality, the price of premium rice at the milling level rose 0.44 percent on a monthly basis and jumped 10.02 percent on an annual basis.

Meanwhile, in July 2026, the average price of premium rice was recorded at Rp. 14,880 per kilogram (kg), while medium rice was at the level of Rp. 13,694 per kg.

Meanwhile, the price of medium rice at the milling level increased higher on a monthly basis, namely 1.25 percent, while on an annual basis it increased by 3.24 percent.

The price increase also occurred at the wholesale and retail trading levels, namely BPS recorded the inflation of rice prices at the wholesale level reached 0.61 percent on a monthly basis and 4.11 percent on an annual basis. Meanwhile, at the retail level, rice prices rose 0.49 percent on a monthly basis and 3.10 percent on an annual basis.

Ateng emphasized that the data was the average rice price nationally which included various types and qualities of rice throughout Indonesia.

"The price of rice that we have conveyed, which I mentioned earlier, is the average rice price that includes various types of quality and also covers all regions in Indonesia," he said.

In addition to monitoring the development of rice prices, BPS also recorded the Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) in July 2026 at the level of 127.84, an increase of 0.15 percent compared to the previous month.

Ateng explained that the increase in the NTP occurred because the price index paid by farmers had a deeper decline compared to the price index received by farmers.

Meanwhile, the decline in the price index received by farmers is mainly influenced by the weakening of the prices of a number of horticultural commodities, such as sweet peas, red onions, tomatoes, and red peppers.

According to him, this condition makes the horticulture subsector record the deepest NTP decline in July 2026.

"The horticulture subsector experienced a decline in NTP of 8.49 percent. This condition is due to the price index received by horticultural farmers falling by 8.74 percent. It fell deeper when compared to the paid price index, which fell by 0.28 percent," he said.
