The 2027 MotoGP Opening Race Will Take Place in Thailand

JAKARTA - The opening race of the 2027 MotoGP season will take place again in Thailand. This is the third consecutive year that the first series of the world's most prestigious motorcycle race is opened in the White Elephant Country.

This certainty was conveyed by MotoGP in their latest press release last week. In the announcement, the 2027 Thailand MotoGP is at the forefront of the competition calendar for the upcoming edition.

"Thailand will host the opening race of the MotoGP season for the third consecutive season, underlining the importance of this country in the championship and the passion of its rapidly growing fan base," said MotoGP in a statement on their official website.

MotoGP first visited the Buriram International Circuit in 2018. After that, races there always entered the MotoGP calendar, except in the 2020 and 2021 competition seasons which were disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Buriram circuit then became the opening series of the first season in 2025 and retained that position this year, which brought more than 200 thousand spectators to watch Pedro Acosta win the Sprint Race and Marco Bezzecchi win the main race.

Carmelo Ezpeleta as CEO of the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group said that hosting the opening of the MotoGP season for the third consecutive year is a proof of the extraordinary partnership between them and Thailand.

"Buriram consistently presents one of the best events in our calendar, making it the perfect place to launch the new MotoGP technical era," he said.

The 2027 Thailand MotoGP, which takes place on March 5-7, will make history as the first competitive event to take place under the new MotoGP technical regulations for the 2027-2031 cycle, namely 850cc motorcycles and Pirelli tires.

Previously, there were speculations that Buriram would be missing from the MotoGP calendar because the Thai government was reportedly interested in hosting a Formula 1. Thus, the emergence of this confirmation automatically dampened the rumor.
